Karen Marie Hourscht
Photographer

Karen Marie has a passion for new life, a passion to see the beauty new life brings to families and individuals. She has spent many years learning about, caring for, and teaching others about the various passages of pregnancy and childbirth.

Trained as a nurse she worked at Mercy General, Freemont/Rideout Medical Center and Kaiser South Sacramento. She taught postpartum and childbirth classes. As an ultrasound nurse she was the first to introduce expecting parents to their baby’s first image.

Her passion for photography ignited when she began taking pictures of her friend Amy who was pregnant with her third baby, Tyler. When approached by Karen to have her picture taken she refused, and said she felt uncomfortable with her growing body. However, at Karen’s persistence she agreed to it. Later on, she was surprised to see her own beauty captured on Karen’s camera. Encouraged by this early success and understanding how she herself felt while pregnant, Karen started to invest many hours in crafting her skill in photography, lighting techniques, composition, image editing, manipulation and advanced image enhancement. She is grateful to the professionals who mentored her, people who saw the genius and the passion of her pursuit, and committed to help increase her experience and knowledge.

Karen is dedicated to help pregnant mothers change the way they see and feel about themselves during, what she feels is, the most unique and wonderful time of their life.

She is a wife and the mother of 3 beautiful children, Austin, Sierra, and Ashley Renee.

Karen Marie captures the subtle expressions of unusual beauty every mother experiences as she brings a new life into this world. Her portrait sessions generate more than photos, they create an unforgettable experience. She celebrates the mother, the child, and the entry of life into our world.

She has been featured on Good Day Sacramento, her work has been displayed on art galleries in Sacramento. She has donated portraits and artwork to the March of Dimes Foundation.
